With globalisation deepening, personal family matters and businesses expanding overseas are increasingly common, and demand for notarial legal services in this field has grown sharply. To serve clients better and to give fellow lawyers a forum for exchange, on 5 June Minton Law Firm held a seminar on notarial legal services for personal family matters and for businesses going abroad, bringing together lawyers from across the profession.

Jiang Tong'an, a notary at the Changning Notary Public Office in Shanghai and a contributing editor of the journal Shanghai Notarisation, was the guest speaker at the seminar.

Ms Jiang set out the core points of cross-border notarial practice in clear terms, taking the audience through the wider field and offering current industry insight.

The session followed five core topics. Ms Jiang began with real cross-border cases, setting out the background and analysing the issues in dispute to show how cross-border notarial work is reasoned. On Hague apostille certification, outbound investment and evidence preservation she explained the workflow in detail, sharing risk-control techniques and efficient handling strategies drawn from current practice.

The audience listened closely, taking notes, photographing slides and joining the discussion. Ms Jiang used analogies and questions to draw people in, and in the question-and-answer session answered the questions her fellow professionals raised on cross-border compliance for companies and on the notarisation of family matters abroad, so that those present left with a fuller understanding of cross-border notarial services.

The seminar was an opportunity to share the firm's experience in cross-border notarial work and to open a channel of communication between lawyers and notaries, bringing the two branches of the profession closer together.

Participants said the seminar had been substantial and practical, deepening their understanding of cross-border notarial work and giving them new approaches and methods for their own practice, and that every session, from current trends to practical technique and from analysis to case study, had been useful.

The seminar reflected the firm's commitment to its professional role and to the development of the field. Minton Law Firm will continue to hold exchanges of this kind at a high standard and to contribute to cross-border notarial practice.
