On the ninth anniversary of the entry into force of the Law of the People's Republic of China on the Protection of the Rights and Interests of the Elderly, Shanghai Minton Law Firm was invited to the comprehensive care centre for older people on Gongliang Road in Huinan Town to run an outreach session on the protection of older people's rights, bringing local residents a lecture on the safeguards the law provides.

The speaker, lawyer Zhang Zhaoying, addressed the older audience directly, starting from the cases decided under the "come home often" clause and answering the questions that older people most often bring. The room was lively throughout. Taking the seven rights conferred by the Law as her framework, she covered the duty of children to support their parents and the disposal of property, among other matters, which strengthened the audience's ability to protect their own rights and their awareness of legal risk.

The lecture was a demonstration of the firm's readiness to carry social responsibility, and a picture of its participation in public-interest work. Minton Law Firm holds to that commitment and takes part in public legal service, working to serve the community better and to contribute more through the law.
