On the morning of 15 June 2026 the Minton Cup moot court exercise, jointly organised by the law school of East China Normal University and Minton Law Firm, concluded at the law school on the university's Minhang campus.

The law school attached great importance to the exercise. Cen E, secretary of the Party committee of the law school, Li Shuai, vice-dean, and associate professor Zhang Yinghui attended to give guidance. Built around labor and employment law, including the Labor Law and the Labor Contract Law, the exercise was designed to familiarise students with the whole arbitration process and to bring legal education and practice closer together, developing their ability to apply the law, argue logically, think as lawyers and draft documents and submissions.

The case came from a real matter handled by Huang Chunhuan's team at Minton. The students prepared thoroughly, studying the case file and drafting the application for arbitration, the defence, the list of evidence and supporting documents, cross-examination views and submissions in advance. In the moot court the parties argued the issues in dispute, such as whether the termination was unlawful and whether overtime pay was due, with clear reasoning and solid authority, and showed strong legal judgment and advocacy.

Huang Chunhuan, deputy director and senior partner of Minton, took part in the exercise. After the hearing the law school's leaders and teachers and Mr Huang commented on each side's performance, the application of the law, the strengths and gaps in their handling of the facts, the clarity of the evidence list and written submissions, their composure in the hearing and their advocacy. Together they explained points of practice to the students and encouraged them to build practical skills and a solid professional foundation, and to take the opportunities offered by practice-based teaching and the deepening cooperation with the law school to become part of the profession.

The exercise was a successful joint initiative of the law school of East China Normal University and Minton Law Firm, and an example of practice feeding back into legal education. Minton will continue to deepen its cooperation with the law school, explore further formats and keep building a bridge between the classroom and the workplace, so as to help train well-qualified lawyers.
